Tennis court windscreen

Windscreens for court perimeters, backstops and divider fences. Enough blockage to calm the wind and hide the parking lot without turning the fence into a sail.

Windscreen installed on the back fence of a tennis court

What matters at this venue

A tennis fence does three jobs at once. It has to slow the wind that pushes a ball off its line, give players a calm, even backdrop to pick the ball up against, and keep the courts from feeling like a fishbowl beside a road or a parking lot. Every one of those jobs asks for more blockage, and the fence itself asks for less: a full-block screen on a ten-foot chain link run carries real wind load into the posts.

That is why the pick for most courts is a 90% mesh rather than the highest blockage we make. It reads as a solid backdrop from the baseline, it still breathes in a gust, and it takes a printed club or sponsor panel on the back fence. Courts that step up to 95% are usually doing it for a road or a neighbor, and they do it on the one run that needs it, not the whole enclosure.

Backdrop before privacy

Ball visibility is why the screen goes up. A dark, consistent color behind the baseline matters more than the last few points of blockage.

Wind is what ends panels

Nearly every mid-season failure starts at a grommet on an exposed run, not in the middle of the fabric. Sized panels and the right ties keep the load spread.

Resurfacing sets the schedule

Screens come down for resurfacing and go back up for the season. Order to the fence height and the panels line up the same way every spring.

Questions about tennis screening

Order the fence height. Screens are finished 4 in shorter than the fence so the panel sits inside the top and bottom rails, so a 10 ft fence gets a 9 ft 8 in screen.

Most courts screen the two back fences first, since that is where the ball is read against the background and where the wind does the most damage to play. Side fences are added for privacy or for a road.

Yes, when it is sized to the fence, attached through every grommet and tensioned evenly. Panels fail at loose corners and skipped ties, not in the fabric.

Yes. The printed mesh screens take club, school and sponsor graphics on the same material, and they can be mixed into a run of plain panels.
